GDO-R Examiner Levels

  • GDO-R 2.5-6 Examiner

    A 3 Day GDO-R Trainee has participated in the GDO-R 3 Day Workshop and is approved to utilize the GDO-R in their professional and personal setting.
    All 3 Day Trainees should conduct 20 practice GDO-R assessments before giving the assessment in a professional or decision-based setting.

  • GDO-R 6-9 Examiner

    A GDO-R 6-9 Trainee has participated in the GDO-R 3 Day Workshop, AND the 6-9 Year Old Online Training and is approved to utilize the GDO-R (2 ½ to 9) in their professional and personal setting.
    All 2.5-6 /6-9 Examiners should conduct 20 practice GDO-R assessments before giving the assessment in a professional or decision-based setting.

  • Experienced GDO-R Examiner

    An Experienced Examiner has demonstrated competence and practice beyond a GDO-R Examiner, and has shown superior knowledge and expertise in administering, scoring and interpreting the GDO-R. They will receive a certification card stating completion of requirements and will be expected to stay up to date with the latest information/research from the Gesell Institute and retraining every five years.

    REQUIREMENTS

    1. Successful completion of at least one or both of the following Gesell Developmental Observation (GDO/GDO-R) workshops:
    a. 2 ½ to 6 – Year Old Workshop
    b. 6 to 9 – Year Old Workshop

    2. Up to date 2.5-6 or 6-9 Examiner status – updated every 5 years with a required workshop

    3. Administration and interpretation of at least 75 Gesell Developmental Observation assessments of children spanning all ages: 2 - 6. (2-9 if a 6-9 Examiner)

    4. Successful completion of the GDO-R Results Webinar

    5. Successful completion the GDO-R Mentoring Program

  • Qualified GDO-R Examiner

    1. Successful completion of at least one or both of the following Gesell Developmental Observation (GDO-R) workshops:
    a. 2 ½ to 6 – Year Old Workshop
    b. 6 to 9 – Year Old Workshop

    2. Up to date 2.5-6 or 6-9 Examiner status – updated every 5 years with a required workshop

    3. Administration and interpretation of at least 150 Gesell Developmental Observation assessments

    4. Complete a telephone interview with Director of Education and Development

    5. Submission of Candidate Profile (form to be sent following telephone interview)

    6. Submission of acceptable GDO-R samples and interpretations to the Director of Education and Development for review.

    7. Submission of at least one video of the GDO-R being administered by the Candidate, and the accompanying completed and scored Child Recording Form. Another option is to be approved to be observed by a member of the National Lecture Staff, administering and interpreting the GDO-R.

  • National Lecture Staff

    A candidate for National Lecture Staff (NLS) membership is required to complete a variety of steps including one or more co-presentations at a 2 ½ - 6 year old GDO-R workshop. Once this has been successfully accomplished, the candidate will conduct a “solo” workshop with the Director of Education in attendance.

    1. Successful completion of Qualified GDO-R Examiner qualifications within the last five years.

    2.Successful completion of 2 additional GDO-R workshops (either the 2 ½ - 6 year old or the 6-9 year old workshops), preferably taught by different National Lecture Staff members, to gain more information and perspective of the assessment and presentation techniques.

    3.Submission of a supervisor’s written recommendation based on their observation of the candidate conducting a presentation to teachers or parents on an early childhood/child development related topic.

    4.Submission of a current DVD showing the candidate teaching/presenting the following tasks OR the candidate is observed by a National Lecture Staff member while the candidate is teaching/presenting the following tasks.
    •Gesell Ages & Stages (2 ½ to 6 year olds) training
    •Cubes
    •Copy Forms, Name & Numbers
    •Incomplete Man

    5.Successful completion of a co-presentation of a GDO-R workshop done with a NLS member.

    6.Successful completion of one solo GDO-R Workshop with the Director of Education in attendance.

    7.Final interview with the Director of Education and the Executive Director of the Gesell Institute.

    **Candidates may opt to defer completion of the 6-9 year old workshop. As full members of the NLS they must agree to participate in this workshop within 5 years once commencement into full membership to the NLS has been completed.
    **Approved NLS members will be asked to review the NLS Policies and Procedures Handbook and sign an annual letter of agreement confirming agreement and adherence to its contents.
